Envelope analysis links oscillatory and arrhythmic EEG activities to two types of neuronal synchronization

Neuronal dynamics regimes characterized by irregular or arrhythmic activity have been discovered recently. In this study it's shown that during REM sleep rhythmic oscillations are the prominent, while in non-REM sleep there is a derivation towards an arrhythmic superposition of the transient neural synchronizations.
